Dancing Foreigner

Last night I hung out with some new friends at a birthday party. Most of them know each other through the English teaching organization. The rest were studying at the University of Deusto. I was the new girl.

There was someone from Southern Spain, Northern Spain, Brussels, Ireland, 4 from the UK and 3 (including me) from the states.

Isn't that crazy cool? People from all over the world in one room. With seemingly nothing in common but the desire to travel, learn and experience. Kind of a special feeling I'd say.

Anyway. the night lasted forever - and not in a bad way. Nearing the end, after being much filled with music listening, getting to know you questions, Spanish practicing, deep discussions about cultural differences travel and 'grown-up' things and much drinking (coke and fanta for me, naturally) everyone was a little loopy. A mixture of sleepiness and alcohol I'd say. With so much diversity, each had their preconceived notions about the other. Being from Texas, I naturally know everything about cowboys, guns, deserts and danger and stuff. So by 3am they finally got me to show them some country line dancing. The floor was cleared. I tried to think up everything I learned from those youth dances. And I danced.

Turns out either I am a terrible Texan or country line dance is the same as the electric slide.

Go figure.*

*This realization closely reminds me of the moment I realized twinkle twinkle little star and ABCD were the same tune. Who are these sneaky creators.

Afterwards someone said something like "after seeing you doing that dance, there is no way you aren't drunk."

Well look at that, guess I don't need alcohol in me to look like a fool.

All in all in was a great night. I like new friends. Especially when each are so different. And I was told near the end that my company was greatly appreciated.

I'm cool. Yesss.
